Woman wanted for selling underage puppies in Ontario is arrested

By Stacia Glenn

A 45-year-old woman wanted for selling underage puppies in Ontario was arrested today at her Riverside County home, authorities said.

An arrest warrant was issued last year for Marisol Novarro De Lam after she failed to show up for a mandated court appearance.

Workers at the Inland Valley Humane Society suspected De Lam of animal cruelty for selling too-young pups. It is illegal to sell puppies younger than 8-weeks-old.

Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Riverside County Code Enforcement and the Inland Valley Humane Society served the search warrant at De Lam's home.

De Lam pleaded guilty to one count of felony animal cruelty in October 2004. Less than a year later, a Riverside County Animal Services commander allegedly found that De Lam had violated her probation by having more dogs than she was allowed. About 50 dogs were confiscated from her at that time, officials have said.
